The closest IKEA to me is 50 or 60 miles away. I've never been there. When they had their grand opening a few years ago, traffic backed up on the expressway because so many people showed up. Is Swedish design that fantastic?

So true! I actually did get lost in Ikea and about never found my way out since I couldn't go out the way I came in. Frustrating.

Loved the comment on Target. They just remodeled our Target into a Super Target and, yes, they moved the entrance, the pharmacy, the customer service and everything else so that now I have to "re-learn" the layout.

I hit up Ikea like, every weekend. My two year-old even sings a little song "we'e going to Ikea, we're going to Ikea!" It's pretty bad. the layout is a bit confusing but we've got it down so we can be in and out. I'd set up a tent and sleep there if I could.

I've only been to Ikea in Chicago, where my sis lives. We don't have one here. I was impressed with the child care! But you're right...it is like this huge maze. I keep telling The Boyfriend he HAS to have the Ikea experience. So next time we visit Chicago we're goin'! I think we have one in Atlanta, only 4 hours away or so, but every time Nashville talks about getting one, apparently it gets voted down.

There's an award for you on my blog today:

I love Ikea but there isn't one in my entire state. The closest one to me is in Pittsburgh. About 5 hours from here. Sob.

Wow! I've never been, thanks for the heads up. Sounds like a lot of good stuff, but not enough to overcome the bad for me.

Hi Ladies, we don't have an IKEA here but I know exactly what you mean. We have other huge warehouse-style stores and it's not just the challenge of navigating inside the store but trying to find your car out in the parking lot after! Thank God for the panic button on my keychain!

I totally agree with Charisse. I am always lost in Ikea!
Have you seen "Ikea Heights"? It's so funny. It is a 5 episode mini-story shot in the IKEA in Burbank. They filmed it without the knowledge of the IKEA staff. They get caught one time. It's a bit campy, but sooo funny. You got check out all 5 episodes from 1 to 5. It's like a serial soap opera. Too cute!

Everyone talks constantly about taking road trips to IKEA--we have one a couple hours away, but I have never been. And a GPS wouldn't help me. I'm THAT impaired.

I've been to one in Chicago and in Orlando. Truthfully, I'm just not that impressed. I so understand what you are saying, I was afraid I'd lose my husband and never find him again. He decided after our first visit in Chicago, when they wouldn't let us take our cart to our car and unload it...he hated the place. We had to pull up to pick up...stupid. Give me Crate and Barrel any day.

Holly,
Thanks for the well wishes for my little piglet! To know if it's swine flu for sure, there is a test. They swab your nose. It's kinda like the swab they do for strep, except instead of the back of the throat they stick it all the way up inside your nose. Hurts like hell. Then they culture it for 10 min. and then you know. I asked the Doc if it was seasonal flu or swine flu, he said that it's too early for seasonal flu, so that everyone that test positive right now for Influenza A pretty much has the swine flu.

Hi Ladies! Found you over at Batcrap! Love your blog, will now be following. I have never been to Ikea, but I love the idea that if I go and get lost, there are snacks in the center of the store :) :)

come on by and say hi!

When I lived in Tempe, AZ, they had just built an IKEA about 5 minutes from my apt. It was great, but yeah, the first time I went, I was lost!!! It was crazy the way they had their entrances and exits. I wasn't too impressed with the prices, for stuff that you have to "build" yourself--I went there because people told me stuff was "cheap."

I did find a lot of good deals on dishes and stuff for the kitchen; they have a big selection of that.
We also got a sofabed there, and we loved it.

Here, in Albuquerque, NM there is no IKEA. I don't think there's one in the entire state. it is a fun place to shop and look around at. *sigh* oh well...

We don't have IKEA here and I've never been to one. Are you serious about the childcare? You get to dump your kids off while you shop?? Is it free with a purchase?!?! I'm hoping you're going to tell me there's not really babysitting at IKEA, otherwise I want to move where there is one. Immediately.

Erin - You don't have to purchase anything to get free childcare for 2 hours! The childcare is great too, movies, clean ball pit, art area, a slide, big space to play, and the helpers are terrific! Just to rub it in we also have a grocery store with a Starbucks AND childcare. Sit and make your list over a latte and then leisurely stroll thru the store...Ahhhh. Except now you HATE me. I'm sure your house is bigger! :)

Cameron - Welcome! Great to meet a new friend.

Stephanie - Thanks for the swine info. Hopefully we won't need it:)

Stephanie - I am SO renting that show. Sounds right up my alley!

Willoughby - The Swed's have it...hands down! No, it is just economical...and an experience.

Great to hear from y'all today. I'm working at the kid's school all day. Just popping home in between shifts. Can't wait to read more later. Hugs to everyone...cuz I know some of you can probably really use one today! Holly

I <3 Charisse's immitation of the mouse hitting the lever to get their reward! You girls never fail to put a smile on my face!

With that said, I have never been to one either. The hour drive to Indiana just to get to the closest one does not appeal to me! Maybe if I go visit MIL in Cinci some week I will check it out!

Charisse, The layout was the brainstorm of the designers....if you're looking for a way out, you slow down and take in your surroundings....and then you impulse buy. It's retail at its most brilliant...and that's why none of us can find our way out...

Crazy like a fox, those swedes..by the time we stumble through we are hungry, have picked up several things we had no idea we needed, and we are so tired we'll have ditched any idea to see any other design stuff and just decide to go with what we've seen in the store......I will say though that everything we've bought there has held up through the years -- one glass shelving unit we have had 19 years and it still looks great, and I miss a fold out table we didn't take off the wall with us when we moved!

You totally hit the nail on the head. I love Ikea but cannot figure that maze out...so I bring my son he is good at that. Luckily, there is no Ikea here so I don't get lost often. Another funny post. Thanks.
